My Resolutions for 2012 (in the comments). Feel free to borrow them!
No posts about religion or politics on the internet (which should be tough in an election year), nor commenting on anyone else’s religious or political posts. Nothing polarizes people or makes a conversation awkward more quickly than these topics, so I’ll keep my opinions to myself and off the internet.
More reading. In 2011, I read more books (and audio books) than I have in the time since graduating high school in 2002. There’s a whole creative world I’ve been missing out there, and for someone who loves to write, it can’t hurt to read more.
Removing myself from thankless situations. It sounds a bit selfish, but I’ve bent over backwards to make people happy, often without reciprocation or even gratitude. I’m enacting the “is this what I really want?” and “will this be appreciated?” tests.
Finish what I start. In 2011, I finished an album I’ve been working on for years. I’ve already started a second, and plan to finish it by the end of 2012. This also goes for some house-related projects that have been sitting half-completed for too long.
Join or donate to some sort of charity. I’m not sure which one yet, but there are plenty of good causes out there worth some attention. I did a lot of volunteering in college, but not much since. Time to get my philanthropy on!
Less unhealthy eating. I’m not going to do some rigid diet that I’ll fail in 2 weeks time, but rather just making a conscious effort to eat better. This also means avoiding over-eating, and going out less, and saying no to dessert once in a while.
